The term "Digital" in "Digital Camera" is defined that the camera incorporates digital image sensor (digital light-sensitive sensor) in contrast of Analog Camera uses the chemical film, and imaging DSP that processes the captured image fully digital to be presented on screen and sent to the digital storing device. The image is captured by the sensitive digital image sensor (CCD - Charged Coupled Display or CMOS - Complimentary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) and processed by the imaging DSP (Digital Signal Processor), then stored digitally in the digital storing device.

The digital image sensor works like human eye. The light hit the objects, makes the objects visible. The camera lens works like the human eye lens, passing through the visible objects by the lens measurements, framing the visible objects into measurable window. The better the lens, the more dimensionally precise visible objects are framed, the better the natural looks of the visible objects, which is known as "Optical Purity". Then the framed visible objects hit the sensor.

The digital image sensor's sensitivities captures the various signals based on the various differences of luminance hit the digital image sensor, then the sensitivities of the digital image sensor separates the various luminance differences into coded signals which will be send to the imaging DSP. The better the digital image sensor, the more various and detail the luminance differences captured, and the more variation of coded signals generated, the more detailed captured image information send to the imaging DSP.

The imaging DSP works like human brain, it reads, interprets, and presents the coded signals captured by the digital image sensor. The information consist of various detail information that can be translated into color information, clarity, details. and many more. The better the imaging DSP, the faster information processed enabling high-speed capture, the richer the information decoded and presented resulting better color, clarity, and details, the better picture produced and digitally stored in the digital storing devices.
